Donations for ‘Planting for a Purpose’ Accepted at Titletown Night Market

What is “Planting for a Purpose?”

With harvest season underway, the Green Bay Packers and Extension Brown County are inviting local gardeners once again to participate in their Planting for a Purpose Program, which encourages community members to plant a garden plot and donate fresh produce to local food pantries.

Where and What Can I Donate?

Paul’s Pantry will be accepting fresh produce donations at the Thursday, Aug. 22, Titletown Night Market from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Planting for a Purpose booth. The Market is located at Titletown, just west of Lambeau Field, and Planting for a Purpose will be at booth No. 6.

What is Different About This Year?

Gardeners are encouraged to stop by and donate, as local food pantries report that there is a great demand for more fresh produce donations to meet clients’ needs. With the late start to this year’s growing season and the erratic weather this summer, pantries are in need of increased donations.

Who Can Donate?

Gardeners of all ages, including school-aged children and classroom groups, are still encouraged to sign up for Planting for a Purpose at Produce Donation 2019 and pledge to donate a portion of their harvest. Locations at which to donate are included on the sign-up sheet.

How Does Planting for a Purpose Help?

Planting for a Purpose participants help to make sure all community members have access to fresh fruits and vegetables. In 2018, pantries and gardeners reported 15,000 pounds of donated produce. Gardeners can learn more about the program at Brown County Community Gardens.

What is the Green Bay Packers Give Back?

Packers Give Back is the Packers’ all-encompassing community outreach initiative, which includes the Green Bay Packers Foundation, appearances made by players, alumni, coaches and staff, youth football outreach, cash and in-kind donations, Make-A-Wish visits, and community events.

What is the Brown County Community Gardens Program?

Since 1996, the Extension Brown County Community Gardens Program has provided garden space and logistical assistance to county residents, empowering them to grow affordable, nutritious, and culturally appropriate food. For more information, please visit Brown County Community Gardens’ website.
